BeDocTM application to track behavior by Isis Digital

June 6, 2011

Purpose of BeDocTM

Isis Digital created an application used by teachers and special education workers in the classroom. Its purpose is to track the problem behaviors of students. It is designed to allow quick entry of data at the time events occur.

Bee Mobile components used in the project

The screens above were created using .NET CF GUI components contained in Bee Mobile iPack. The main component is TouchList. It was used to create a scrollable user interface in which items are vertically moved by user’s finger. The main container for all the components on the screen is TForm which is like a standard Form, but contains a background image. TVistaButton was used instead of standard button which can be seen on the middle screen shot.

“I have enjoyed using your controls, and especially enjoyed the excellent service…” says Michael Klassen, BeDocTM designer at Isis Digital. “Excellent work. Thank you for that.”, Michael added.

“Beacons for Windows Mobile” from a Swiss software studio by Stefan Heesch

June 5, 2011

What is Beacons for Windows Mobile good for?

Beacons supports the HAM radio amateur to make use of the International Beacon Project. It helps fo figure out which beacon is transmitting on which frequency at any given time. The transmitting radio beacon is displayed on a world map together with a short description. Additionally the distance and bearing from a selected location to the beacon is calculated and shown. If the cell phone supports GPS the actual position can be automatically determined and displayed as QTH locator. It is also possible to manually synchronize the mobile’s time to an external time source.

Bee Mobile components used in the project

The application uses Bee Mobile components extensively to build its GUI. Transparent labels and check boxes in combination with TPanelVista are used (screen 1) to neatly divide the client area into sections. iWheel component is also used as a frequency selector, QTH locator and time picker (screens 1,2 and 4). The interactive map on screen 1 was created using RegionControl. ProgressBar and WaitingBar were also used to inform the user about operations going on under the hood.

“Utilization of Bee Mobile components in “Beacons for Windows Mobile” has significantly sped up the development of the application and made its accomplishment possible in the designated time frame.” said Stefan Heesch, the author of the application. “The components are very easy to use for the developer.”

Sleep Sense Windows Mobile app by dVision

June 3, 2011

Idea of Sleep Sense

SleepSense detects the movements of a person throughout the night by using their phone’s accelerometer. It keeps track of all the different phases of the sleep and attempts to wake the user up during a light sleep phase.

SleepSense uses an adjustable time window (e.g. 30 minutes) before the set alarm time and wakes the userat the optimal moment. The user feels rested and ready to start the day.

The whole project is hosted on XDA Developers forum and its beta version CAB installer can be downloaded from the following web site: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705122

Components of Bee Mobile iPack used in the project

All the buttons used in the application were created using TVistaButton component. TForm component is used as a primary container for all other components. It is also reponsible for displaying the image in the background of the application. TVistaButton‘s transparency and gradient fill combined with the background image of TForm provide interesting glass effect and give the application clean and modern look.

TLabel component also cooperates nicely with TForm. It works like standard label, but its background is transparent so the user can see through it and the background image is therefore also visible.

TPanelVista is a transparent container with gradient-filled background and round corners. It can be used to group relevant controls together and indicate their boundaries.

Finally the iWheel control has been used to allow the user to choose time and set the alarm. iWheel allows the user to rotate its cylinder using his finger. It is not only an alternative only to the standard date and time picker control but can be used to pick any values from the cylinders (text items, image items, numbers, etc.).

About dVision

As a Microsoft Dynamics NAV partner; dVision did some research for a project in which Navision data needed to be updated on phones with the Windows Mobile OS. One thing led to another and a developer used up all his spare time to create SleepSense.

All components used, and during the development created helper classes, are now also available for business projects; Integration between Dynamics NAV and Mobile phones. A Win-Win situation.

Chess Clock Pro on Marketplace by Daniel Zeller

June 2, 2011

Idea of a student

Daniel Zeller wanted to write a digital chess clock for players, but he had never developed an application for Windows Mobile platform before. He decided to search for 3rd party controls to shorten his development time in order to quickly and effectively turn his idea into a real product.

iPhone like user interface on Windows Mobile

Daniel had vision to create nice looking user interface, and he found that BeeMobile controls would fit his vision. He started to use RegionControl as a Toolbar at the bottom of his applicaiton, iWheel as a Time Picker, and Transparent controls.

Flash presentation of Chess Clock Pro.

Another application on Windows MarketPlace: Smoothies for WM

He found that development with 3rd party controls saves him a lot of time, and the controls are more customizable then the default controls in Visual Studio. Then he decided to write another application for mobile users and give them for free. The application was named “Smoothies” and it contains smoothie recipes. It is also available on Windows Marketplace. Here you can see some screenshots:

La Roca for Windows Mobile by Steven Lewis

June 1, 2011

Features of La Roca for Windows Mobile

The application allows the users to read the Holy Bible in Spanish on their Windows Mobile (the English version is currently being developed). La Roca allows users to save bookmarks for reader’s favorite passages and make categories. The GUI is configurable in terms of Font and Font Size, colors and position of the files. The user can search for text within the whole Bible, change versions of a Bible translation and read parallels in 2 selected versions.

Bee Mobile components used in the project

The essential component to La Roca is a finger-scrollable TextViewer component responsible for displaying the actual content of the Bible. With it the users have a comfortable experience while reading the book.

To display a list of user’s bookmarks TouchList component has been used. TouchList is also finger-scrollable which positively affects the user’s experience. The other transparent controls (such as TVistaButton, TPanelVista, TLabel, ComboBox and MessageBox) all cooperate beautifully in La Roca application to give the reader the most pleasant experience possible on Windows Phone platform.
